Bubba asked: I’m looking to get certified to be a Personal Trainer. I don’t want to spend a lot of money. Anyone know of any good places to get certified. I came across ExpertRating…does anyone know anything about this or any other places to get certified? Any information is greatly appreciated!

dreamchaser8860 asked: I recently started receiving ads from a school called the National Personal Training Institute, telling me how I can get into shape and train for a career as a personal trainer all at the same time. The cost for a 1-2 year period is $5900. But I have a friend who is already a trainer who says that the test is something you can just study for and pass for a lot less money, and I can still get my certification. Has anybody out there heard of this school? And have any trainers out there ever gone to a place like this to get certified?

noselessox asked: I grew up playing soccer and finished my career a couple of years ago. I’m looking to start playing again. I’m going to try out for a semi-pro team about a year and a half from now. So, I’m trying to get established into a workout routine without burning out (which is why I quit a while ago). My thoughts are to start eating right again and ease back into a workout routine. These days, I’m just doing a lot of stretching. I’m hoping to incorporate some abs this week and then weights the next week. I don’t know when I ought to start speed workouts (i.e. sprints, plyometrics etc.) since the tryouts are such a long way off. Any suggestions?

massiveafro asked: I’ve been working in the fitness industry for more than 6 years and some day I’d like to be one of the best trainers out there! I’ve just moved to a new country and am giving my career a lot of thought in terms of what areas I need to develop.
I was wondering what people really look for in a fitness professional. For example is personality more important than knowledge and qualifications? Would you like a trainer to be your friend and someone you socialize with, or do you prefer your trainer to be distant, professional and perhaps someone that you are in awe of? What would make a trainer inspirational? How important is it that a personal trainer is in good shape themselves?

asked: Ok. Last year I lost 45 lbs by doing cardio at the gym several times a week and eating really clean calorie wise at 1000-1200 calories a day. I was 5′8″ and 230 lbs at 32 years old. I got down to 185 in about three months. Well, this winter I gained a lot of the weight back (was up to 225) and I do not want to do that anymore ever again!
So now I am back and I have done the same things as last year. I just lost about 15lbs so far and I really want to do all of the right things to maximize my loss amounts over the next 6 weeks (I have a trip I am going on then and want to look my best.)
So what exactly should I be doing to maximise my efforts?
Eat no more than XXX or no less than XXX amount of calories a day?
When doing cardio, should I stay at a certain heartrate, no more or no less and how long per session, 45minutes? An hour? How many days per week? I do use a heart rate monitor.
I believe in calories in/calories out and that indeed does work for me as well.

thetravelingmartins asked: I have been going to the gym for about 2 weeks now. I normally just get on the tread mill for 20-40 minutes. I may jog for a few minutes here and there. (I am not a very good runner.) What is a good workout routine to do if I want to loose a lot of weight? Should I be doing weights as well? I am kind of getting bored with my routine but I am not sure what to do. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

vineo76 asked: I read these magazines that have these excellent workout plans. I do the workouts, but I don’t do the crazy diet that they show with it. I don’t eat a lot of egg whites and things like that, but I do make sure I eat healthy and drink protein shakes like “Muscle Milk”. Is it important to follow the diet plan that they have in these magazines? I mean, prisoners don’t follow a series diet plan and they come out pretty ripped.

Am asked: I am interested in being a personal trainer. I know a lot about fitness and eating right. I have been exercising religiously for 8 years. I am fit and I love getting people motivated to take care of themselves. I am self-taught. I am interested in just doing one on one sessions at a local gym. I don’t want to teach classes or anything(unless it’s a Pilates class). Do I have to be certified to train?
